Blogs vs. Wikis

A blog is a personal website that is open to the public. Bloggers can create a blog for many reasons, to voice their opinion, share news, or to share with people information about their an area they have an interest in. Companies can also use blogs for marketing purposes. They also use them to see what consumers are saying about their products. A wiki is a website that has information on almost any subject someone is looking for. A person does not have to log in to an account to change this information. Each page has an edit link, where anyone who views the page can change or update the material on the page. On a wiki since anyone can edit a page the facts might not always be correct, therefore they are not a valuable source.

Convergence is today's world has a high rate of importance. Using multiple communication modes can be extremely difficult. With convergence this can become easier because all the modes would be on a single network.

There are many ways blogs can be used for collaboration. One reason is to save time. A team in one part of the world can blog about their findings or what they have accomplished on a project while another group or team can do they save and they can compare what they have found or already done on a project so they do not do the same thing twice. Another reason is collaboration can save a company money. A company can have a blog on a certain product. Instead of having employees go and give a survey they can use a blog to see how a customer feels about a product.

The only wiki I know of is Wikipedia, which tells you about any topic you want to know about. I think you could have different types of wikis that could have one topic. For example, a sports wiki or a history wiki. This would help sort through all of the information out there on the web.
